Shoe care

We have a couple of tips for how to take car for your leather shoes. This should help to prolong the life of the shoes and their appearance. When the shoes are not taken well care off,  there is a chance that the quality of the leather of your shoes will deteriorate

General tips

  • Leather is a 'living' material and must be able to 'breathe'. Dry your shoes outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
  • Use (wooden) shoe trees to maintain the shape of your shoes, or use paper that you change regularly (this also helps when drying the shoe).
  • Put on the shoes with a shoehorn. If the shoes are often forced (without a shoehorn), the lining at the heel can be damaged.
  • Detach the shoelaces completely when taking off the shoes.
  • Never step pull down the sole with your feet to take the shoe off, this can eventually cause the sole to come off at the heel.
  • Never put the shoes next to the heating or in an enclosed space (trunk as exemple).
  • Remove the laces before starting treatment (if applicable).

Maintenance/cleaning: leather

Let the shoes and the dirt dry first before you start. Remove dirt with a soft brush. If the dirt doesn’t come off, use a soft, damped (not wet) cloth to remove the access dirt. Let the shoes dry in a well ventilated area. Nourish your shoe with a special leather product or beeswax for optimal condition. This prevents the leather from cracking and tearing. Let the leather absorb the product and do not rub.

Maintenance/cleaning: suede/nubuck

It is important to spray the shoes with a waterproof spray before use. Suede is sensitive to dirt and moisture. The spray impregnates, maintains and makes suede water and dirt repellent. Suede shoes are maintained with a special suede brush. This brush has 2 sides: a rough side to remove stains and a soft side to highlight the typical properties of suede. We recommend brushing and impregnating the shoes regularly.
